WeRide Targets Up to 10,000 Robotaxis in Saudi Arabia by 2030

Guangzhou-based autonomous driving company WeRide plans to scale its Saudi robotaxi fleet to between 7,000 and 10,000 vehicles by the end of the decade, according to comments its CFO and head of international, Jennifer Li, made to AGBI.

The company already runs driverless taxis in Riyadh through a partnership with Uber and local operator Ai Driver, starting from the airport. It expects to have 100 vehicles on the road by the end of this year, with expansion into central Riyadh's Olaya district and a new project at the Qiddiya entertainment giga-project planned for next year. WeRide also operates autonomous buses in AlUla.

The push aligns with Saudi Arabia's goal of making 15 percent of public transport vehicles autonomous by 2030, supported by roadside smart infrastructure the Kingdom began installing in 2024.
